From running barefooted initially to donning Indian colours, Kavita Raut has come a long way. Her family who provided her strong support during the crucial period, feel that winning an Olympic medal is their ultimate dream
Born in a tribal family in Sawarpada, a village near Harsul, Nashik, Kavita Raut created history in 2010, when she won a bronze medal in 10,000m in the Commonwealth Games, New Delhi. It was the first individual track medal by an Indian woman athlete at the Commonwealth Games. She also holds the current national record for 10km road running with a timing of 34:32s as well as the current national record in the half marathon with a timing of 1:12:50s.
