Physiological effects of Pranayama

Increases elasticity of lungs and its functioning. Better gas exchange and ease in
breathing. Most competitive sports require high levels of aerobic performance over extended
periods of time as they must use maximum lungs capacity, diaphragm and intercostal
muscles. New research in the Journal of Medicine and Science has established that ‘Bhastrika
Pranayama’ enhances lung function and efficiency in the athletes. Pranayama helps a sportsman
attain control over his actions in the game. Exhalation plays an important role as it defines
the strength and power ability of the player.
