Feels national volleyball coach GE Shridharan, who guided the Indian youth team to win the historic Asian Championship title. The Arjun awardee player and Dronacharya awardee coach spoke with Milind Dhamdhere about his journey and standard of volleyball in India. Excerpts:
How did you turn to volleyball from cricket?
During my school days I was fascinated with cricket, but my father, who was serving in the army, said that I should be playing more result-oriented game. This will sound odd in today’s scenario but at that time, limited over cricket was yet to be introduced and the Test cricket would normally end without a clear result. So, I switched to volleyball as it was a popular game in southern India.
