Chetan Korada is the first-ever driver in the world to win a race using synthetic feet and second to participate after Alex Zanardi. Having been born with a deformity during birth, he had undergone bi-lateral amputation, yet he is never into para-athlete sports. He refuses to use modified cars and faces the challenge in the open-wheel car category. In an interview with Milind Dhamdhere, he speaks about his journey and memorable experiences.
‘Pain ‘less racing
From childhood, I had never thought that I am a specially-abled person. When I was a small kid, I used to wear Jaipur shoes. At that time, I had no knowledge of what these shoes meant. Many times, I had experienced blood oozing out of the wounds. But I used to ignore those things and enjoyed playing football, basketball and even cricket etc. So, I will say that the base of my courage and determination was laid in my school days itself. Even today while racing, I do experience wounds because of the artificial legs. However, I do not allow such wounds to affect my performance in the racing competition. Since the very beginning, I have competed as a normal racer and while driving the car I forget everything and focus completely on driving. I never think that I have artificial legs.
