On September 19, 2000, weightlifter Karnam Malleswari created history by winning a bronze medal in the Olympics and even after 20 years not a single athlete from India has managed to match her feat. The super-women of Andhra Pradesh feel that to create more champions, India should focus on proper coaching and infrastructure.

Early life
Born in Voosavanipeta, a small village in Andhra Pradesh Karnam Malleswari was lucky to have sport-minded parents. Her father was a college-level football player mother was quite keen on physical exercises and had put her four daughters to the nearby gymnasium for training as their eldest daughter Krishna Kumari became a national-level weightlifter.
