Jog Maharaj Wrestling Academy
Alandi-based Jog Maharaj Vyayamshala is the only residential wrestling academy for girls in Maharashtra. Under the watchful eyes of international referee Dinesh Gund, the academy is changing the face of women wrestling
What motivated you to start the academy for girls?
Back then I was working as a teacher at a private school. But, when my daughter Ankita took interest in wrestling I wanted to give her the best facilities to train. But during those days, women wrestling was not common and no-one was ready to enrol Ankita in their akharas. So, I took the initiative and started our own academy. As I had realised the lack of training facilities for women wrestler, I decided to convert our make-shift training facility into a full-fledged wrestling academy only for girls in 2003.
