‘India has a long way to go’

In a game of chess, one is constantly forced to make
choices as for every promising move, there is an alternative
that looks as good.
Grandmaster Pravin Thipsay had made a living out of
taking countless decisions across the 64 squares. But in the
year 1972, when he was just 13-year-old, took a big decision
to change the school to follow his dream of playing chess.
After consultation with the parents, Thipsay took admission in
Balmohan School, Mumbai where he believed that the school
encourages inter-school activities and tournaments. The
decision turned out to be a game-changer as within two years
he emerged as the national junior champion.
