Arjuna Awardee Virdhawal Khade

‘Vir’ means warrior and Virdhawal Khade is surely a fierce warrior, who has seen a lot of up-downs in his career. From becoming the youngest Indian swimmer to qualify for the Olympics to missing out next two-in-a-row, the Arjuna awardee has experienced a roller-coaster ride. In his interview with Bhushan Barve, the lanky swimmer unfolds his journey

 

Sometimes even casual decisions define destiny and it happened with Virdhawal Khade too. This Kolhapur lad was never into swimming but his father’s small decision changed everything around him.
“Swimming was never on my mind at all. It just happened that my father got me enrolled in one of the summer camps in Kolhapur and that’s how it started. I learned the basics quickly and made good progress within a month. The coach at the camp noticed my skills and told my father that I have a natural talent to become a good swimmer and we should consider it as a career opportunity,” said Virdhawal.
