What are the basic benefits to the child through sports?
For kids, the best leisure activity ever is sports. Kids who play sports exhibit many distinct values and virtues as a part of their personality. Involvement in sports of any kind has an intangible effect on the personality of the kids. Be it indoor or outdoor, professional or leisure, team or individual games, sports changes a lot of things in kids and is an imperative part of kids’ growth and personality.
Playing sports right from childhood exposes children to numerous benefits in children’s life.
Sports includes a lot of stretching, jumping, and exercising. Tell kids to exercise and they would retaliate like an army and tell kids to play a game, they’ll put all their efforts and get actively involved. Exercising at a young age increases metabolism, increases height and makes the child’s physic strong. Playing every day in childhood helps them maintain their health and keeps them fit as they grow older.
Every sport requires focused training. When children start playing sports at a young age, they realise that they will not land upon the ground and start playing immediately as there is a certain process that needs to follow. Children have to follow a certain dress code, follow the routine of exercising and stretching before and after the game, and wait for their turn patiently. This gives children a sense of discipline and they learn to obey the rules.
Many values in students are better inculcated with sports than preaching. Virtues like respecting other’s decision is difficult to inculcate in children but through sports, this gets inculcated in children seamlessly. While playing sports, it is inevitable to respect the umpire’s decision. This gives the children strength to take decisions against them and they eventually start respecting the game, the players and every opportunity they get. While playing team games, children learn empathy and teamwork which makes them a better individual.
Playing sports every day is a new opportunity every day. Every game comes with a new possibility and a fresh chance to win and perform better. Children who play sports get a habit of trying again and giving their best shot at every attempt without feeling bad if they lose. This develops a sportsman spirit and gives them a ‘never say die’ attitude. It is observed that the people who play sports are able to deal with anxiety, stress and depression better than those who don’t.
Kids are energy ball, if they do not get the right place to channelise their energy, children become violent and aggressive. Channelizing this energy on the playground is the best thing that can be done. It keeps children involved and motivated keeping them away from getting involved in unnecessary and addictive things.
Sports build stronger children- physically as well as mentally.
