In the previous article, we looked at the genesis of overreaching and overtraining. Whenever the exercise overload far exceeds the body’s capacity to regenerate, the athlete could be headed towards overreaching and eventually overtraining. Around 10–20 per cent of athletes experience the syndrome of overtraining or staleness. As the athlete experiences increasing difficulty in recovering from workouts, performance can decrease.
