‘Mountaineering is a team sport’
In the previous generation, it was said that the life of the common Indian women revolves around the kitchen and kids. But there were few Indian women who broke the stereotype. Bachendri Pal is a classic example. In 1984, she became the first Indian woman to scale the world’s highest mountain Mt Everest. The senior mountaineer feels that the sport is nothing but teamwork and without strong support from other members, it’s difficult to achieve the goal.
Most Memorable moment
Spending nearly 45 minutes at the top of the world was definitely the most memorable period of my life. Like any every mountaineer in the world, it was my dream to climb the Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak. I was feeling proud that time and realised if you have a will and desire to win, you can achieve the same with strenuous hard work.
