Finding a balance between sports and academics is essential for the modern student. Mrs Nirmal Waddan, the principal of The Kalyani School, writes about her views on how parents and teachers can play a pivotal role in providing the required support

Considering physical education and sports as important as academics, and giving it the requisite weightage in the school curriculum is no mean feat. I as one of the stakeholders in the school, am constantly striving to strike a balance between both, so that academics and physical activities complement each other, instead of being at competitive ends. Keeping that in view, I strongly feel that, every child should play some sport or the other, even if they do not excel in it. This will not be a compromise with their studies; rather, once they have played some sport, it will help them in concentrating better, and being more focused when they get back to the books.
