From witnessing his farmer father work in extreme conditions in drought-prone Beed district to bag gold glory in Commonwealth Games, Rahul Aware has already grappled many eyes. In an exclusive interview with Akshay Badwe, the wrestler shares his inspiring journey and expects a bright future of wrestling in our country
It was just another evening for wrestlers where the young guns were working out on their own or in pairs on the training mat. They jumped up and down, lift two-foot-long, cylindrical clubs as well as dumbbells or stretch on horizontal benches. The men, who warmed up, headed on to the ring in the centre of the mat to begin their wrestling sessions. At the same time, the 27-year-old, with a height of five feet five inches, greeted us with a smile and a ‘Namaskar’. He was none other than the famous wrestler Rahul Aware, from Maharashtra, the five-time gold medalist in National Championships and a gold medalist in Commonwealth Games 2018 in Australia.
