In the decade of 1990, Indian table tennis came out of the shadow of the domination of more profound Chinese and Korean paddlers to kickstart a mini-revolution in the country. It became a talk of the town when the Indian team racked up of medals at the Commonwealth Championships in 1997. There were a precious few names who were part of it, but the one that stands out is that of Subramanian Raman, or S Raman-as he is more commonly known.
