Aditi Ashok: The proud flag-bearer of Indian women’s golf

 

For a country that has not been that attentive or celebratory towards games other than cricket or now tennis and badminton, sports like Golf have been away from the spotlight; but golfers like Aditi Ashok are changing that perception in a big way. The Bengaluru-based golfer became the youngest Indian to qualify for the Ladies European Tour. In an exclusive interview with Omkar Paranjape, Aditi reveals how her passion for the sport was ignited at a relatively tender age

The word impossible perhaps is the easiest of the excuses for humans. That’s why it’s been thrown away cheaply to everyone and everything. We only allow our brain to shield itself under its veil and find out ways to run away from challenges. But this word finds it very tough to make inroads in the brains like Neharika. A fatal car accident some years back was gracious enough to give Neharika a second chance to live. She lost control of more than fifty per cent concerning her right-hand movements, it almost seemed like irrecoverable damage. But her strong will power made the impossible turn into possible and today with the same hand she performs with precision her dentistry chores and throttles her way on the racing track clocking an exhilarating speed of 265kmph!

Golf in India is fast emerging as a major force to reckon with considering the global landscape. Even as Aditi Ashok, wowed her growing fans with her match-winning forays on international turfs, women’s Golf in India needs to strengthen its roots further. Nonetheless, Aditi is quickly becoming the face of golf in India and is leading the golf revolution within the country.
