‘Our players need more international exposure’
Former international and Dhyan Chand awardee coach Shabbir Ali feels that only identifying talent is not enough. The players should get ample match practice and international exposure for overall development. In an interview with Milind Dhamdhere, the finest striker of India spoke about various topics.
About tournament structure
Fortunately, due to tournaments like I-League and ISL, there are a lot of activities in football. But in theses tournaments more and more representation from all major states is necessary. Initially in these tournaments, there were players restricted to 6 to 7 states only. Gradually few other states have also made a representation in these tournaments. There should be representatives from more than 20 States. This will enable some talented players from the smallest states to have experience with top-rated players from our country. This will help to develop the talent available on the Grassroot level. Also, football is such a game which can be played throughout the year and in any season.
