High-intensity interval training (HIIT) includes intervals of activity and rest periods which are interspersed in the workout. The main strategy is to alternate short periods of intense anaerobic exercise (example: sprints), with less intense recovery periods. Being very demanding, these workouts typically last under 30 minutes, though there is no universal duration for a HIIT workout. Ultimately this is a cardiovascular exercise aimed at improving endurance or stamina.
